Residential Yard Waste Program

Yard waste collection is provided to customers that reside within the city limits of Mountain View. Yard waste is used in a number of recycling processes, such as composting. Yard waste recycling produces rich compost which can be used by local residents and farmers, rather than going to waste in a landfill.

Please set out your garbage, recycling and yard trimming carts in the street by 6:00am on collection day and remove them no later than the next day. Place carts at least 18 inches apart on the street by the curb. Store the carts behind a hedge, fence or other area screened from street view as a courtesy to your neighbors.

Acceptable Yard Waste Materials Only place green waste materials into your brown container!
Accepted Yard Waste Grass clippings Leaves Tree and shrub prunings Weeds	Important Yard Waste Notes! Plastic bags must not be placed inside your brown cart. Tree and shrub prunings must be cut small enough to fit inside the cart with the lid completely closed. If you regularly have extra yard waste, you can order a larger or second yard waste cart at no charge. Please, do not place items on top of the cart.

Construction Debris Concrete, rocks, dirt, asphalt Electronic / Universal Waste Televisions, computers, cell phones, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury switches Garbage Un-recyclable items	Household Hazardous Waste Paints, solvents, motor oil, cleaners, corrosives, used syringes Organic Material Food waste, animal feces or manure, painted or treated lumber, plywood or particle board Recyclable Material Recyclable glass, metal, paper and plastic

Extra Collection Services:

Residents can schedule three "On Call Plus" clean-ups per calendar year. Each clean up allows for the collection of bagged or boxed items, (not to exceed 4 ft. high by 4 ft. wide by 8 ft. long), and up to three bulky (large) items.
